One of the toughest things for a dog owner to deal with is having a dog that is aggressive. Not only is it extremely difficult to deal with an aggressive dog but it can be risky as well.

The first step to correcting aggressive behavior in dogs is to figure out what sets them off.

Is your dog exhibiting aggression towards other dogs?

If so, one way to tame an aggressive dog that seems to be out to get other dogs is when you are taking your dog for a walk and you see another dog, get your dogs attention.

If you know anything about dog training and dog training commands then you might be familiar with the command “Watch Me”. This is a great command to use when your dog is getting near another dog because what the command means is for your dog to look you in the eye and give you his full attention.

If you can get your dogs attention on you then you have a good chance that they will not get aggressive towards the other dog.

Another thing to avoid when your dog is around another dog is letting your dog make eye contact with the other dog. When dogs make eye contact they are basically issuing a warning that they are more dominating. This can lead to real problems when you have two bull headed dogs who think they are king of the castle.

Another way your dog might be aggressive is with his food. Some dogs will get aggressive when they are eating and get very territorial. If you dog is aggressive when he is eating then you need to make sure children are not around him anytime he has food or a bone.

One way to curb you dogs food aggression is to make sure he does not eat his meal before or at the same time you and your family eat. This will make your dog understand that he is not in charge which is needed if you plan on getting rid of your dogs aggressive behavior.

When your dog is exhibiting signs of aggressiveness, for example food aggression in dogs or dog aggression towards other dogs then it is time to do something about it. SafeDogObedienceAdvice.com is a free website for training your dog.
